5/11/2023 0 Comments A brief history of time reviewThe book also explains ideas of how time stops near black holes, why objects can’t travel faster than the speed of light, how black holes aren’t so black after all and also the science-fiction ideas of wormholes and time travel. This idea of gravity was adopted to explain the orbit of mercury which deviated from Newton’s laws. Now if you put a few marbles on the mattress they move towards the ball, or rather gravitate towards it. Place a heavy ball on the mat so that map dips around it. For example, he describes the notion of gravity and relativity in the following way: Imagine a thin mattress which is held outstretched. He explains a rather mathematical and theoretical idea with various illustrations and relatable examples. Albert Einstein and the theory of general relativity was the highlight of the book. Hawking has a quirky sense of humour and along with ideas being developed also shares various life events of scientists. The book was addictive despite being a slightly difficult read as, once you understand an idea, you want to understand how it relates to other topics of the book. The book uses minimal technical jargon and mathematical knowledge to explain how the notions of gravity, relativity, black holes have developed over the twentieth century. A Brief History of Time is an introduction to cosmology aimed at the layman and addresses fundamental questions such as “How did the world come to be?” and “Will it come to an end?”. 5/11/2023 0 Comments Batman noir the killing jokeBatman Noir: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore - 9781401263645 We use cookies to give you the best possible experience. A year after the final book in the series was published, I still think about how many times I stared off at nothing as I processed cliffhangers and plot twists that I hadn’t seen coming.Īt one point, in A Gathering Of Shadows (the second book in the series), I recall distinctly that I sat with my jaw dropped, screaming because of the sudden onslaught of feelings that I couldn’t contain. It felt like a natural progression as the world opened up page after page, saturating the reader and engulfing them in a sense of adventure with peril and consequences for every action taken. Schwab’s writing could bring such a visceral feeling as to the overall tone of a series without being overly descriptive. Thinking back on it, it amazes me that V.E. This is not, and never was, a lighthearted series that wouldn’t have a lasting effect on the reader.Īs I read, my mind played the series out in grayscale as if directed by Guy Ritchie, the pop of red appearing as Kell used his magic. This sets the tone of the series in and of itself. Together, although reluctantly at first, they try to return the stone to Black London before it completely takes over. Kell comes across Lila Bard, a thief with a mind of her own and ambitions to become a pirate, who finds a mysterious stone that bleeds magic from Black London, slowly infecting Grey London as it spreads. His reviews have been published in The Second Circle. Since The White Tiger, Aravind Adiga has written many online literary pieces and articles for The Financial Times. From a middle-aged Communist to an Islamic. Through the myriad and distinctive voices of its inhabitants, an entire Indian world comes vividly and unforgettably to life. The novel exhibits the lives of servants who serve businessmen in India and how a village illiterate goes on to become an entrepreneur. In his compelling new work of fiction, Aravind Adiga has imagined the small Indian city of Kittur, an everytown nestling on the coast south of Goa and north of Calicut. He often elaborates on the high and low points of the Indian economy and the possible effects that it has on middle class men. The White Tiger has earned him recognition and Adiga is now a well known person in the literary world, not only in India but overseas too. When he returned to India in December 2006, he rewrote the book entirely and completed the book in early January. 'Between the Assassinations' is a latticework of fourteen interrelated stories about the people of Kittur, a small town 'on India's southwestern coast, between Goa and Calicut.' The organizing principle of this book is the tourist guide, as each story begins with a walk through one of Kittur's distinctive neighborhoods, giving the reader a view. He began writing The White Tiger in 2005, but gave up midway. Aravind Adiga is best known for his novel The White Tiger that is a novel about the captivating economic scenario in India and has changed the perspective of people about the Indian Economy, with the birth of the character Balram and his life in the city of Delhi. 5/10/2023 0 Comments The sandman season of mistsAnd if I’m going to put an actor of this size in this place, I have to give them something to do. You go, OK, I want an actor of this size. In making television, you have an economy of actors. So everything is going to have to be folded into things. You only have your 24 or 22 pages, your six panels per page, your 35 words per panel. “If you’re writing comics, you have an economy of page. “I kind of feel like every medium has its own economics,” he explained. When discussing this change, Gaiman talked to Variety about the economy of the page versus real actors. This means that in “The Oldest Game” scene, rather than facing off against another character, it is directly Lucifer. One of the smaller changes from the comics to the show is that when Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) makes his way to Hell, rather than three co-rulers of Hell, it is just Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) ruling in her majesty. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Why not women by loren cunninghamThrough, first, a massive overview of God's work accomplished through godly women around the world over centuries, and secondly, a thorough inductive Bible study of the three difficult passages in their original context and language, I have received a sense of peace and joy that a proper understanding of these passages in the light of the whole of Scripture is possible. The authors humbly address the pain which these controversies have caused women and the sad attack these controversies have brought on God's work of loving our world and longing for ALL humans to be saved and made whole. I found a thorough reading of this book to be deeply encouraging and helpful in understanding three difficult passages of Scripture which have caused endless controversy about 'the role of women' in the church for centuries. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Flight by alyssa rose ivyI was sad that he wasn't around as much as I wanted. I wanted to know his secrets and understand him better. Levi actually appeals to me even though he makes one huge mistake that really wasn't cool at all. Her swearing off boys/men started it and then I had problems with some of her choices. But, somehow, she just wasn't real for me. I liked that she was strong, determined and didn't take Levi's ego. I didn't really have that happen this time. What's even better, is that that scene happens in the book right down to the black dress and hands against the wall. I really enjoyed that aspect of this book. The world was the type I like best, set in our normal present with the exception of some paranormal creatures living among us with all their politics. I loved finding about this new, to me, shifter and a whole new lore. 3 stars - A fresh idea for YA paranormal romance |
